Softlock provides the Multimedia and Games Protection solution as an
automatic software and data protection. The protection is characterized by the
combination of different protection techniques and technologies that meets the
vendors’ requirements. This solution is depending on Softlock Protection
Solution v5.0. The challenging security in this solution is that it is based on
Hardware protection, which resists all piracy operations.
Multimedia and Games protection can be achieved by combining the following
techniques
Cryptography
Softlock Multimedia and Games Protection Solution depend on strong
cryptographic libraries and standards which adds extra strength to the system.
Protecting the data with strong and trusted symmetric encryption (AES and 3DES)
gives strength against decrypting the software code. While depending on PKI
certificates and RSA cryptography provides strength in combining the security
with a hardware device. Softlock Protection Solution doesn’t use a single key
for decryption, though it uses multiple distributed keys with multi wrapping
mechanisms.
License Management and DRM
License Management and DRM systems are responsible for controlling the Data
DRM and distribution process. Softlock Multimedia and Games Protection uses a
license model based on XrML standard. The license is characterized by its
readability and high security depending on PKI standards. The following screen
shot are taken from Softlock Protection Studio v5.0 illustrating the different
rights and conditions available in any license.
Automatic Data Encryption/Decryption
Softlock Multimedia and Games protection provides a secure and integrated
solution to protect the vendors’ data using strong encryption techniques (AES,
3DES) combined with strong shell protection for the software accessing the
protected data. Protecting the software and encrypting the data with advanced
DRM license will provide the most secure control to protect the vendors’
contents. During run-time, the Shell protection will be responsible for
decrypting and encrypting the protected files seamlessly and transparently. The
following figure illustrates how the Shell protects the Data viewer from being
debugged or reversed while performing the Automatic Encryption/Decryption
process on the encrypted data files controlled by DRM.
Secure Multimedia and Games Distribution
Softlock Multimedia and Games protection solution provides a secure way to
distribute Multimedia and Games for end users. Secure distribution and copy
protection add extra security to vendors’ data. Softlock combines the mentioned
Encryption and Shell protection with a Hardware media for authentication and
secure distribution. There are several methods for distribution: Safe CD, Safe
CDR and Safe ACTIVATION with DVD. The following sections describe each
distribution method in details.
Safe CD
In this method, Vendors can distribute their Multimedia and Games on
protected CDs. Safe CD is a secure copy protection technique which binds
Multimedia and Games to specific CD (i.e. Original CD). Softlock Protection
Studio v5.0 provides the methodology for protecting the CD and its contents.
This solution best fits in mass distribution with cost effective price.
Safe CDR
In this method, Vendors can distribute their Multimedia and Games on
protected CDRs. Safe CDR is another protection method for distribution which
binds Multimedia and Games to specific CDR (i.e. Original CDR) preventing
illegal copy of the contents. This solution best fits in small amount
distribution with a cost effective price and faster time to market.
Safe Activation
In this method, Vendors can Vendors can distribute their Multimedia and Games
with different ways. Safe Activation doesn’t depend on the distribution media,
though it binds the protected Multimedia and Games to an Internet Activation
Server and Unique Serial for each user. Protected contents can be distributed on
CD/DVD or even vendors can publish the contents on the internet for public
download.
